With only a few days left until the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple, travel enthusiasts and devotees are facing an unprecedented surge in flight rates and hotel accommodation charges. Data compiled from various travel portals, including SOTC, Thomas Cook, and EaseMyTrip, indicates a strong willingness among attendees to pay substantial amounts, reaching into lakhs, to participate in the sacred “Pran Pratishtha” ceremony scheduled for January 22.
As the preparations for the event are in full swing, special invitations have been extended to approximately 6,000-7,000 individuals, including notable politicians and celebrities. Indicating the remarkable interest in the destination, travel industry sources have reported a staggering 400% increase in demand compared to pre-pandemic levels.
“With the announcement of the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, demand trends indicate increased interest for the destination from customers across segments,” noted an industry insider. They highlighted that airfares to Ayodhya from major hubs like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai range from approximately Rs. 20,000 to over Rs. 30,000 due to the significant demand.
Direct return fares to Ayodhya during the week of January 22 are reported to be 30-70% higher compared to average return fares to the closest hubs, including Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur.
While the consecration ceremony in Ayodhya is expected to draw an initial attendance of nearly 7,000 guests, projections indicate a daily footfall of three to five lakh visitors post-inauguration, offering significant economic opportunities. EaseMyTrip revealed that leading up to the inauguration, Ayodhya’s hotels are fully booked, resulting in increased pricing. Occupancy rates have surged from 80% to 100%, leading to substantial price hikes, with select hotels charging up to ₹70,000 per night.
As the devotees eagerly prepare to participate in this historic event, the surge in travel costs underscores the immense significance and widespread enthusiasm surrounding the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
